| GamblingPhD menu | Antigua Wants and Needs Regulation January 6, 2009 There are very few countries that want online gambling regulated more than Antigua. The little country makes the majority of their money from registered online gambling sites, so if they arent making any money, neither is Antigua. When the United States passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, little Antigua took a big hit from it and is still trying to recover. However, with the British Department of Culture, Media and Sport reportedly approving online gambling budget increases to the tune of 100% - they are looking at gaining a whole lot more. They are promoting Antigua as the place for online gambling groups to set up shop and the country is welcoming them aboard. With the British Government passing white listing and Antigua being on that list it simply opens a whole new world to the tiny country. Being on the list means that they follow stringent regulations with their online gambling industry, which makes playing there safer for customers and makes them more trustworthy. This has caused a large surge in the online gambling industry for the country, something they have desperately needed. The Director of Gaming for the Antiguan Commission said that with the new designation that they were seeing many more online casinos wanting to be registered in their country. They say that they are being very careful about who they let in and are watching and regulating them accordingly. The country knows that by following the letter of the law that they could be looking at much more online gambling business to follow. |
