Kentucky Planning on Appealing

January 30, 2009

It is no surprise that the state of Kentucky is planning on appealing the decision by the state Court of Appeals where they awarded the online gambling sites their domain names back. Originally the courts had found in favor of the online gambling sites, and then that decision was reversed on appeal and they were awarded to the state. Now the courts have reversed the online gambling sites appeal and given them back to them.

The state announced yesterday that they would be asking the highest court in the state to give them back the domain names. They said that they were sure that upon another appeal that the decision would be different this time for them. Many say that it is simply unlikely that the state Supreme Court would reverse it, but there is a slight chance that they would.

The problem many residents have over the whole thing is not whether or not they get the online gambling domain names, but rather the amount of money that is being spent on obtaining them. They say that Governor Steve Beshear is determined to be right no matter what the cost and that the money for these frivolous lawsuits is coming out of taxpayer money. They say that they would like to see it going to better use and letting the online gambling sites keep their names.

All of the other pending issues in the case were not heard because the case was overturned, therefore leaving no other discussions to be had regarding online gambling. The Poker Players Alliance said that they agree with the residents of the state and that they would be outraged as well at the amount of money that Beshear is using to pursue this.
