| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Industry Celebrating January 31, 2009 The online gambling industry could not be happier regarding the latest ruling on the domain names in Kentucky. Not only that, but in the same week a Pennsylvania judge ruled that poker was a game of skill, not chance, thus making it legal in the state. It was a big week for online gambling. With these changes coming forth from our government officials regarding online gambling, it is no wonder that the industry is feeling rather strong at the moment. There is a renewed interest in overturning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement act, as well as a push behind the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative or SSIGI. SSIGI has long been at the front of the fight to legalize and regulate online gambling. It is endorsed by the Remote Gambling Association and groups like eCOGRA. It is considered to be one of the very best online gambling bills out there today, and many think that with President Obama in office now is the time to try and get it passed. Many think that this is just the beginning of things to come. They say that the likelihood of online gambling becoming legal and regulated within the year is pretty good. The government is already aware of all of the revenue that could come from legalizing online gambling, and in this economy every little bit helps. The fact of the matter is that most people are participating in online gambling anyway, so why not take advantage of an existing revenue source? Back to January 09 Archive. |
