| GamblingPhD menu | With the Good Invariably Comes the Bad January 22, 2009 Online gambling is fun. Thats it in a nutshell. Online gambling is a fun way of wasting time on the internet and if you are lucky enough to win some money then it just became even more fun. That is the beauty of online gambling. However, for some people it has become a bit more than just fun. For some people, it has become a real problem. The majority of people who participate in online gambling are not addicted to it. However, there are some that dont know when to say when, and therefore find themselves in trouble. A recent report from The Daily Mail in the UK says that there are 284,000 online gambling addicts in the UK and that the number is expected to rise. Now, for claritys sake, we must also mention that The Daily Mail is also staunchly anti online gambling, so one has to question their motives. That being said, they are calling for assistance for those that are addicted to online gambling and they say that treatment programs must be implemented to take care of them. They dont come right out and say that online gambling should be illegal, but it is definitely implied. Now, when one delves into the report a bit further, they discover that the numbers they are using for online gambling addicts actually come from a governmental report that says that 284,000 problem gamblers have the ability to develop the problem of online gambling addiction. This is very different from actually being addicts already. Back to January 09 Archive. |
