| GamblingPhD menu | PartyGaming Suing Empire January 15, 2009 PartyGaming Plc is suing the owner of the PartyPoker.com brand as they claim that they misrepresented the amount of income that should have been delivered to them. The online gambling group says that Livermore Investments Group Ltd. owes them money in regards to a deal made in 2006. PartyGaming is claiming that Livermore failed to deliver a certain amount of income under an acquisition made three years ago. Back in 2006, Livermore sold PartyGaming part of their online gambling business. They used to be the owners of the online gambling site Empire Online, but PartyGaming bought it for $38 million. John Shepherd, speaking on behalf of PartyGaming, said that they filed the suit on December 23rd of last year and are seeking a six figure claim but would not reveal more than that. They say that Livermore owes them money because the amount of revenue was misrepresented and they are seeking damages. This comes hot on the heels of their own case with the United States Department of Justice who are going after them for their online gambling activities in the US. They say that they participated in online gambling offshore, and since it is illegal in the US they have broken the law. The online gambling companys founder has already pleaded guilty but there are others who are still holding out. Anurag Dikshit, the co-founder of the online gambling group, pleaded guilty to illegal online gambling and has agreed for forfeit $300 million. The others are still mum, and have refused to make a deal with the government at this time. Back to January 09 Archive. |
