Lotteries and Gaming
Authority Stepping Out
January
24, 2010
The Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta is not usually something you
hear a lot from. This group is the online gambling licensing body of the
country, and their Chief Executive Officer is Reuben Portanier.
Portanier is not someone you have heard a lot from as he simply does his
job and keeps his thoughts to himself. That is of course, until
recently.
Portanier has just given an interview where
he talked about the positives of the online gambling industry and how
excited he was about it. He mentioned the IGE-ICEi show that was coming
up in London at the end of the month and said that he expected the
online gambling in Malta to grow exponentially this year. He felt that
they had really gotten a presence in the online gambling industry and
that this was really their year to shine.
He said that there would be a lot of online gambling companies
represented at the show and that many of them would be companies from
Malta. He says that although across the world the economy made it a
tough year for people, Malta did well and so did their online gambling
industry as they continued to grow. He said that they were up from Euro
5.6 million the previous year and expects this year will show an even
greater increase.
Portanier said that more than half of the
exhibition area will be represented by online gambling companies that
are from Malta, and that this would be their largest showing yet.
Experts say that there is no reason to think that their online gambling
industry won’t continue to flourish.
