Online Gambling in New
York

There have been rumblings
that there were quite a few online gambling organizations being run out
of New York, and there was talk that there were mafia ties to them.
However, up until now there hasn’t been much in the way of proof that
this is actually what has been happening. But law enforcement officials
have started really cracking down on them. They are taking their time
and watching and learning as they go – making sure that they have the
strongest possible case – and then they are raiding the establishments
and making arrests.
The online gambling rings are mostly focused on sports betting rings at
the moment, and they have proven to have ties to several different
organized crime units. Officials have been running a two year, multi
million dollar operation where they have been biding their time and
ensuring that they have the best possible case against them through the
use of wire taps and surveillance.
Those online gambling rings that have been targeted allegedly have mafia
ties but are also using the “latest communication devices to move money
and place wagers on off shore websites” according to police. Just last
month supposedly dozens of search warrants were applied for by the
prosecutors who are going after these online gambling rings. Most of the
operations seem to be located in Brooklyn or on Staten Island.
They have already named several suspects in their online gambling
investigation, and they say that they allegedly have ties to the Mafia.
These alleged mobsters include Pietro Inzerillo and Joseph Lanni who
operate the online gambling site TouchDownBets.com.
