Mission tribe gives $10 million to
gambling initiative The San
Manuel Band of Mission Indians gave $10 million to a
gambling initiative making it the largest single
contribution to the ballot measure that will come about this
November in the state of California.
This tribe is a major supporter of
Proposition 70, this initiative would require all tribes
owning casinos to pay around 8.8% of their net gambling
income to the state of California.
By paying this percentage to the state,
tribes owning casinos will in turn be able to run as many
slot machines as they desire. Currently there is a 2,000
slot limit. These such casinos will be able to provide games
like craps and roulette in the casinos. These such games are
currently prohibited in California.
The governor of California is said to be
against Proposition 70 and other similar measures.
