Poker Great part of $700 million bid on WPT

July 11

Online gambling players are always keeping an eye on Doyle Brunson. The well-known member of the Poker Hall of Fame, is taking a gamble on a secondary company of Lakes Entertainment, Inc.

Brunson is involved in the group that is bidding an eye-popping $700 million for WPT Enterprises Inc.

On Friday, the group proposed the offer for WPT. WPT produces the much-loved World Poker Tour TV series on the Travel Channel. Maybe you have seen Brunson on the show - he is a frequent feature of the show.

Lakes Entertainment mainly builds Indian casinos and owns a majority of WPT. Shares of  WPT  grew almost 60% after the bid was announced.

The group's offer was valued at about $35 a share. That amount is twice what WPT shares were trading for at the beginning of Friday.Lakes Entertainment shares even increased more than 25% before closing that day.

Brunson, who is competing at the World Series of Poker said he would comment after playing was finished.

It is believed that WPT's recent jump into the online gambling business is what drove the price through so high.

Lakes Entertainment most definitely welcomes the offer, it has been involved in a battle with the SEC due to the fact that it counts millions of dollars from Indian tribe loans (for building casinos) as assets. The SEC believes the loans are to be considered as expenses not assets.

The SEC issue should be resolved in less than a month.
