Tulane,
maybe
others,
gambling on
casino
courses
July 25
Over a year
ago, a
leader from
Mississippi's
Choctaw
Tribe
signed-up
for an
online
gambling
marketing
course
provided by
UNLV. During
the online
gambling
course, the
Choctaw
member made
a connection
with his
professor.
Currently,
that same
teacher is
working with
Tulane
University
in order to
expand its
casino
industry
curriculum.
This fall,
Tulane
begins
teaching
casino
management
classes
right at the
Pearl River
Resort. This
resort is
developed by
the
Mississippi
Band of
Choctaw
Indians.
Now, because
of the
professional
relationship
that was
made between
student and
teacher,
Tulane is
now starting
the courses.
Tulane's
casino and
resort
management
program will
be fully
accredited,
too.
This is not
the first
time Tulane
has has
reached out
to local
area tribes
either. For
the last
three years,
the
well-known
university
has offered
many other
casino
management
classes at
satellite
make-shift
campuses
located in
shopping
malls.
Because
Mississippi
does not yet
allow casino
management
courses at
its
universities
and
colleges,
the students
in that
state
interested
in the
courses are
heading to
one of the
satellite
locations
near the
border
between
Louisiana
and
Mississippi
to go to
classes. As
we all know,
there are
many casinos
located in
nearby
Biloxi.
By this
coming
August, the
University
of Southern
Mississippi
is hoping to
have it's
casino
management
course ready
for Fall
students,
too. The
Long Beach
campus is
said to be
the USM
campus that
the casino
courses will
be
available.
Other
colleges and
universities
in
Mississippi
are not far
behind
either.
