Californias Online Gambling

July 26, 2008

There have been rumors of the possibility of online gambling becoming legal in the state of California, and now it looks as though those rumors may come to fruition. If so, it could set precedents across the United States.

There are several representatives in Washington that are trying to get online gambling legalized, and with the new bill sitting in California, things could start to really heat up. The California Gambling Control/Intrastate Online Poker Legalization Act, or Bill AB2026, would make online gambling legal within the state of California.

The bill has already made it through the Senate Governmental Organization Committee just last month, and the next step will put it in the Senate Appropriations Committee for an August vote. If the bill is approved it will surely set the stage for other states to legalize online gambling within their borders.

Nevada is another state that has been considering a similar piece of legislature, so if this passes they are assuredly the next state to take it on. Once it passes committee, it would go for a full vote in the Senate and then move toward legalizing online poker throughout the state.

If all goes as planned, the bill would go into effect next January which would give the Division of Gaming Control and the Attorney Generals office plenty of time to come up with regulations for the bill. By next summer there would assuredly be online gambling within the state.
