| GamblingPhD menu | EBGA Issues More Standards July 28, 2008 The European Gaming and Betting Association, or EBGA, has released a new set of standards for online gambling. They are going to go along with the laws that they have already issued as they relate to the European Unions licensing power in the issue of online gambling. The standards are set up to increase player protection by stressing fair gaming and responsible operator behavior. Anyone seeking a license, and any online gambling site that has a license will be expected to comply with the new rules. This new ruling encompasses online casinos, sports betting, and all licensed gambling venues. Those that voluntarily comply will keep their licenses and will have to follow more than 170 online gambling regulations. Those that do not comply will have their licenses revoked. The EBGA passed their first code of conduct in 2003, and these new regulations will simply be an addendum to those already issued. They say that they are only concerned that players across Europe are given the same protections everywhere they go. Some of the things that they are now expected to comply on are prompt and accurate customer payments, responsible and ethical marketing practices, promotion of responsible gaming, preventing underage and problem gambling, and so on. They want players to feel safe and secure when participating in a European online gambling establishment, and know that these regulations will help make that a reality. Back to July 08 Archive. |
