| GamblingPhD menu | Frank Not Even a Gambler July 20, 2008 Sometimes the right thing to do is not necessarily the thing you agree with. Sometimes you have to do what is right because it will benefit others but not yourself. One has to wonder if these are the thoughts that go through Rep. Barney Franks head when he heads off to battle for the rights of online gambling. Frank doesnt gamble. As a matter of fact, he doesnt play poker, or blackjack, or any of the games that he fights for. He simply fights for online gambling because the majority of Americans want it legal. It really is that simple. He says that he doesnt find them at all interesting, and would probably lose if he played. Hes never even played a slot machine or tried to participate in online gambling it just isnt his thing. So how does a person who does not gamble become the poster child and major advocate for online gambling? Simple, he fought for those that couldnt fight for themselves. And in return, he started getting people to support him in the fight. Not only do other representatives now support the fight to legalize online gambling, but so do those that would benefit the most the players. He has gotten more than $48,000 from poker interests alone since January of last year all in support of online gambling. Last October, ten of the top poker players even held a fund raiser for Frank and he wasnt even there. In fact, he didnt even know where it was held although it turned out it was held at Robert Rabens home a former staffer of his. People like Barney Frank because he stands up for online gambling. And since most people want to see online gambling legal, Frank is sticking up for them as well. Back to July 08 Archive. |
