Malaysian Smack Down

July 27, 2008

The online gambling industry is booming in Malaysia or at least it was until recently. Sure enough, the government is cracking down on the amount of online gambling that is going on in the country. The authorities have warned operators that they are about to get very tough on them.

Internet caf operators that run online gambling rings are going to be the focus of the attack. Both authorities and the Perak Cyber Centre Association have said that they are going to be the focus of their raids.

The planned raids against online gambling come with a notice to all that are participating to clean up their acts. They are giving them a months notice, and if they are smart they will take heed. Otherwise they could be looking at a lot of trouble.

Nga Kor Ming, the chairman for the states Education, Local Government, Housing and Public Transport Committee said that because of the number of complaints that they have gotten they feel that they must crack down on it. They say that the majority of complaints come from those concerned about minors being in the online gambling cafs.

They say that they know that not all of them are online gambling dens, but they are aware that a lot of them are. They have ones that are loaning money out to students and charging them obscenely high rates on the money just so they can continue to participate in online gambling. These are the people that they need to shut down so that they can protect people from themselves.
