Scotland Could Have Done More

July 28, 2008

David Copeland has a beef with the country of Scotland. He lives there, but he thinks that they have made grievous errors when it comes to online gambling.

Copeland is the owner of the online recruitment business called Bettingjobs.com. He has 25 people at his office in East Kilbride and others in locations such as Costa Rica and Malta. He says that his country could have embraced online gambling, as he sees the call for it across the world.

His site started simply as a message board for people to talk about online gambling and places for jobs. Then it grew into Europes first recruitment website for the online gambling and gaming industry. He says that his clientele are people who could work in gaming just as well as banking that they share similar skills.

But he says that Scotland is not taking advantage of the online gambling, or the internet boon instead they are going after things like life-sciences which are risky at best.

He is considering moving his business to the United States where he says that with the kind of legislation that Rep. Barney Frank is proposing, there is no reason why online gambling wont be legal there soon. He says that he sees a niche that needs to be filled, and it wont happen while he is still in Scotland.
