Liberated Online Gambling

July 11, 2009

According to several within the online gambling market, experts are sure that not only will the United States make online gambling legal in the near future; but that when they do it will be an easy transition for players. But some say that this is not to be the case, and there are those that disagree that even though the online gambling might be legal that the US will still have so many restrictions that it will be like they never made it legal at all.

At the recent Gaming Executive Summit in Madrid this week, the online gambling company 888.com’s CEO said that they felt that there would be little change between the US making it legal and keeping it illegal. They said that they felt that the US would keep it “protectionist and restrict” online gambling to pretty much how it was now in that they would keep the number of companies that they gave licenses to at a minimum.

He went on to say that because they have pulled out of the GATS that they won’t have to “conform to any World Trade organization regulations” that are passed that pertain to online gambling. They say that as of right now the US is setting themselves up for being able to follow their own rules and they are not comfortable with that.

They say that even within the US there are states that are working to regulate online poker and that those licenses are going to go to US companies if they pass. They say that if the US does allow online gambling that they are going to have to keep a strict eye on them.
