More Sponsors for Online Gambling

July 11, 2009

The online gambling community was greatly disappointed to hear that the bills that had been gaining such momentum had been postponed for hearings until September. Many felt that Rep. Barney Frank had abandoned them, but this was not the case. It just so happens that Frank is the head of the group working on the economy and is the online gambling industry’s biggest supporter.

However, Frank was out and about this weekend at the World Series of Poker. He spent some time answering questions regarding online gambling legislation and where he felt it was going. He said that not only did he think that we were still moving in the same direction but he was also pleased to announce that he had two new sponsors.

This past Tuesday, Frank’s HR 2267 picked up two more Congressional co-sponsors. Rep. Paul Hodes from New Hampshire and Rep. Edolphus Towns from New York have joined forty other sponsors on the bill. Frank is aware that the first time around the bill did not do as well and he thinks that a lot of it has to do with the fact that the country was not ready to look at legalization of online gambling.

Frank says that the “country is in a terrible economic hole because of gambling” and he finds it ironic that even though this is the case, we still say no to gambling. It is the time to say yes to gambling because online gambling is going to help get us out of the hole we are in.
