Come Together

July 15, 2009

The United States and the European Union have decided to come together to discuss the online gambling violations that have been levied against the US. The US has been accused of violating trade agreements by the EU by not allowing online gambling from outside countries while allowing it to exist within their own borders.

The US has been avoiding dealing with the problems as they pertain to online gambling, but now it seems as though they are finally ready to talk. On Monday they started an outline together to discuss coming to an agreement over online gambling. The EU had given the US a grace period of handling the online gambling problems before taking their concerns to the World Trade Organization, and now it seems that there might be an agreement coming.

It now looks, after the meeting, that the US and the EU might be able to work together to get online gambling legalized within the US and to clear up any problems that they have. The EU says that they did not resolve the problems that are there on Monday, but that they did decide the approach that they were going to take and how they might move forward from here.

They said that there were four areas that needed to be discussed between the two groups, and that online gambling was only one of the problems that they were having. They said that there were also disputes regarding Irish music, US rice exports to the EU and trade implications of chemical regulations.
