Harrah's wants to grow in Macau/Asia

June 22

Even though we love online gambling, we still like to keep an eye on what is happing off-line. This is an interesting development even online gambling fanatics will want to know about. Harrah's Entertainment Inc., is looking to Asia for business. Harrah's believes their is much business to be done in the Macau casino market. The company is even considering other regional areas for possible casinos, and the company is not alone either.

Harrah's is one of  fourteen different companies seeking a license to build and operate one of Singapore's 2 planned casino resorts. With Thailand and Japan considering a change in laws in order to permit casinos, Harrah's is standing alert.

With Macau just busting at the seems with revenue, other Asian countries are starting to wonder what this type of cash cow could do to boost their economies. We already know the market is ripe and it should be interesting to see what step it taken next.

Online gambling is popular in Asia, as just about any type of wagering is. The sheer population alone calls for great potential to keep gambling revenue growing, too.

Harrah's will jockey for position among other companies like MGM Mirage and Wynn Resorts Ltd., that want to move into such areas.

Just last week, Harrah's finalized its acquisition of Caesars, making it the largest casino company in the United States.

We will be watching these developments closely here at Gambling Phd  - so be sure to check back on a regular basis.
