Judge
rules on
machines for
gambling on
horses
June 20
If you are looking
for one more reason
to consider online
gambling extremely
convenient, here you
go. A judge in
Laramie County,
Wyoming, ruled that
machines used to
wager remotely on
horse racing are not
lawful. After the
ruling, machines at
one local business
were removed.
However, other
related machines in
other parts of
Wyoming can stay in
operation. Alas,
online casino
sportsbooks will no
doubt, do their best
to help by posting
availability for
online wagers.
This ruling came
about last week when
district Judge
Edward Grant
cataloged the
instant-race
machines as actual
gambling devices.
Generally, the
law in Wyoming
does not permit the
use of gambling
devices as defined
in state statute and
in any form of
gambling.
A
Las Vegas
businessman who
operates the
defeated machines,
along with the track
at Wyoming Downs,
vows to appeal.
Using the
instant-race
machines, playersare
able to wager on
horse races (but not
on the horses
themselves). Players
using the machines
are not privy to the
names or standings
of the horses they
are wagering on.
Often times, the
races are telecast
at wagering
locations, players
then find out if
they win.
In 2002, t he
Wyoming Pari-Mutuel
Commission permitted
the machines, last
year,
Wyoming Attorney
General Pat Crank
claimed concerns
regarding the
machines.
Like we always say,
there is always a
friendly online
gambling sportsbook
willing to help.
