| GamblingPhD menu | AGA Spends Millions on Lobbying June 10, 2008 It seems that the American Gaming Association is putting their money where their mouth is. The AGA is a trade group that represents the online gambling and land based casino industries. They have been spending a lot of money on pushing their agendas in the government and it seems that it might be paying off. The AGA has spent $800,000 on lobbying on online gambling legislation and other issues. The amount spent was just in the first quarter of the year alone. The AGA has members such as Bally Technologies and the MGM Mirage who pay good money as well to see online gambling and land based casinos represented in the US congress. They also have them lobby on their behalf on a measure that they want approved that would attract more tourists to the US. They also want to see the rules that govern the taxation of employee tips changed. They dont feel that the current setup is appealing to anyone except the IRS. They also want to see a federal study go through that would look at the licensing, regulation and taxation of online gambling. There is also a proposal that they are pushing that would license companies that accept online gambling bets. Back to June 2008 Archive. |
