| GamblingPhD menu | Gambling Lobbyists Want Study June 11, 2008 It seems that the American Gaming Association wants the study that it was pushing earlier to become a done deal. There were already grumblings around the government that the AGA was pushing for the study but it seems that they have stepped up their tactics. The AGA wants a study that would show how the licensing, taxing, and regulation of online gambling would work and how it would affect our country. They also wanted to see another proposal on licensing companies that would take wagers from online gambling companies. The group has already spent close to a million dollars pushing their agenda, but now they are stressing the importance of it to the gaming industry. The group is made up of online casinos, land based casinos, even offshore slots parlors that want licenses in this country. In addition, they want to see how they might drum up tourists for their casinos. The group has been lobbying the Treasury Department as well as Congress for their causes according to documentation that was submitted with the House Clerks office on April 18th. With more than 2,000 online gambling sites and a ton more land based ones, it is no wonder that they would have such a strong presence in the market. They just want their voices heard, and their study taken and will continue pressing forward until it is done. Back to June 2008 Archive. |
