New Deadline

June 27, 2008

For better or worse, the United States and Antigua have come to an agreement on a new deadline. As of today, they have agreed to a new deadline, and if it hasnt been met then negotiations shall cease.

Friday is the deadline, so it will be interesting to see what the US comes up with next. Antigua truly has bent over backwards to accommodate the US and to try and resolve the conflict with the country. However, they have not been doing the same.

The island has already received a judgment from the World Trade Organization for $21 million annually, and yet they are still willing to come to some sort of agreement with the US so that they dont have to pay as much in cash.

However, the US continues to drag its feet and ignored the small countries efforts to be helpful. Instead they are treating them with contempt instead of the respect that they deserve. Antiguan Finance Minister Dr. Errol Cort was optimistic that they could reach a resolution in time.

For their part, the US Trade Representative has said that they are working in good faith to achieve a settlement, and come up with an amicable solution. However, what it really comes down to is that if the US makes online gambling legal, away go their legal problems and they make happy the small island that depends on those revenues to survive.
