| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Upset Over Party Gaming Deal June 5, 2008 PartyGaming and the US government have finally come to terms on a deal, but the online gambling industry is in an uproar over it. The online gambling company has settled for $1 billion and the deal will give them a pass on all of their past crimes. The US Department of Justice has the deal sitting on the table, and many industry experts say that this only proves that they are the real hoodlums in the online gambling industry. They say that they are simply extorting money from online gambling companies and they should be put in jail for it. They say that they have already threatened many other companies such as NetTeller, Paypal, Google, etc. telling them to pay up or if they come to their country they will be arrested. They already have David Carruthers under house arrest and Gary Kaplan sits behind bars and was denied bail. Both of these men are charged with promoting online gambling as they started BetOnSports. They say that the same charges could be filed against the DOJ, and that with this case it is simply ransom money that they are expecting to be paid. They are calling foul and saying that this is nothing short of racketeering on behalf of the government. If you pay up you have nothing to fear but if you dont you are going to jail for a very long time. The World Trade Organization apparently agrees as they ruled that the DOJ has been discriminatory in their prosecution of foreign online gambling providers, and that they are still supporting those that give the most money like the horse racing industry. They still allow that kind of online gambling to exist. |
