| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Site Closed June 10, 2008 Several people detained were charged with operating an illegal online gambling site in a sting operation that involved the governments of Turkey, Cyprus, and Britain. Thirty-nine people were detained in conjunction with the online gambling site � of which 28 were committed for trial and the rest released. They are accused of building up the online gambling site superhabis.com in Britain, thus breaking the law. The Turkish police has been watching the online gambling site, and realized that there was a lot of money being made from the illegal online site. The monies were being made and released through transfers between the banks of Britain, Ireland, Switzerland and northern Cyprus. The arranged operations came through the various countries to seven different addresses in Turkish city centers. Seized in the raid in addition to the people were computers, disks, CDs, DVDs, memory cards, credit cards, deposit books, gold, and cash. The people�s account transfer abroad was investigated by the Administration of Turkish Board of Financial Crimes Investigation and they were confirmed as having received money illegally from the online gambling site. In addition, Baris Kum�s family is suing the online gambling site as they blame them for his suicide. Kum committed suicide after gambling away all of his family�s money at the online casino. |
