| GamblingPhD menu | EU Wants Changes June 9, 2009 The European Union is asking for the recent law that was drafted by France to be modified and clarified in several areas. The idea of opening their online gambling industry to other countries is not quite ready for passage yet according to them and they would like to see the changes made before it is passed. The online gambling bill would like to see changes made in the way they are planning on opening up their online gambling industry to their competition. The commission told French Budget Minister Eric Woerth that they wanted several areas that seemed less clear to be made clearer so that they could have a strong document to look at. One of their main points was the way France had described authorizing possible online gambling operators. They want them to take into account existing demands that they are already subject to wherever else they are licensed. This will create a more cohesive way for all of the countries to regulate online gambling. They will be supplying more information as well for the way that they see the law impacting their residents as well as the impact it would have on other European countries. Woerth says that they will be supplying them with the necessary information to make that classification as smooth as possible. They say that there are other aspects of the online gambling law that they want to look at, and that this is just the first step in ensuring a smooth transition for all. |
