| GamblingPhD menu | Malaysian Online Gambling Busts Continue June 13, 2009 The government of Malaysia is serious about cracking down on online gambling patrons and those that allow it to happen. Police spokesmen reported that they have closed another six online gambling dens that were open in the Penang suburbs. They say that they are moving forward with their attempts to clean up Malaysia of all online gambling. Police seized 110 computers during the online gambling raid that were being used to access online gambling sites. They also arrested the various owners of the premises and they took a total of twelve patrons who were participating in online gambling as well. They ranged from 19 to 55 years of age at the time of their arrests. State Deputy CID Chief Supt Nashir Ya said that they are going to continue busting and prosecuting online gambling patrons and sites if they are going to continue to operate and participate in the illegal activity. They said that the online gambling operators could be looking at up to five years of jail time or a fine of RM200,000 or both. The online gamblers themselves are going to be charged under Section 4(B) of the Common Gaming House Act of 1953 which carries a fine if found guilty. The Malaysian government wants to be very clear that if you participate in online gambling they are going to find you and you are going to pay a fine or go to jail depending on the role that you play within the organization.
