Poker
nights
are
most
popular
community
fundraisers
it
seems
March
2,
2007
I
was
driving
in
my
community
this
morning
and
believe
it
or
not,
I
saw
a
Poker
Night
advertised
as a
church
fundraiser!
Talk
about
a
liberal
church.
I
mean,
have
you
heard
of
the
churches
in
your
community
holding
poker
nights?
I
was
amazed
and
I
wish
more
communities
were
as
liberal
with
their
church
fundraisers.
I
mean,
for
years
we
have
seen
Vegas
style
casino
nights
as
parties
at
our
work,
and
charitable
organizations
–
but
a
church?
I
totally
think
it
is a
great
idea,
but
many
of
my
church
going
friends
disagree.
What
does
this
say
about
religion
and
gambling?
Who
really
cares
as
long
as
the
money
(or
prizes)
is
going
to a
good
cause
right?
Maybe
this
progressive
thinking
church
is
just
following
suit
with
charitable
organizations
and
others
who
years
ago
(and
still
do
for
that
matter)
turned
to
bingo
and
Vegas
style
casino
nights
for
fundraising
events.
But,
what
we
are
seeing
these
days
is
POKER
-poker
fundraisers,
poker
nights,
poker
contents
in
our
community
centers
and
more.
Why?
Because
poker
is
white
hot
and
everyone
is
learning
how
to
play
it.
The
focus
on
poker
comes
naturally
due
to
the
fact
that
we
turn
the
TV
on
at
any
given
time
and
see
at
least
one
poker
event
going
on
and
every
time
we
log
onto
our
computer
we
see
some
form
of
new
gambling
offers
from
free
sites.
Movie
stars
and
other
celebrities
who
are
playing
this
game
draw
so
much
attention
to
it
as
well.
So
why
not
capitalize
on
it
in
order
to
raise
money
and
or
prizes
for
a
good
cause.
What’s
more,
Texas
Hold'em
events
and
other
poker
tournaments
for
charity
are
no
cheap
deal
fundraisers
either.
Just
check
out
your
local
poker
game
fundraiser
and
you
will
see
wall
to
wall
tables
jam
packed
with
poker
wannabes
and
other
enthusiasts.
Many
of
which
learned
to
play
poker
at
online
gambling
free
sites.
After
all,
these
people
are
playing
their
favorite
game
and
gambling
is
usually
one
of
their
favorite
past
times
– so
they
are
happy
to
being
playing
for
a
good
cause
while
doing
what
they
really
love.
Additionally,
many
of
these
fundraising
charities
have
a
reduced
age
limit
too.
Instead
of
having
to
be
at
least
21
years
of
age
to
play
these
gambling
events,
players
only
need
to
be
at
least
18
years
of
age
when
it
is
for
charitable
reasons.
This
is
what
makes
charities
popular
with
the
young
gun
poker
community
as
well.
Here
is
another
way
to
think
of
gambling
for
charity
–
you
do
not
have
to
be a
great
player.
You
will
not
be
intimidated
by
being
logged
onto
some
online
gambling
casino
or
at a
casino
in a
gambling
city.
Players
from
all
skill
level
have
a
really
good
time
when
at
charity
events.
Poker
is
the
number
one
theme
that
charitable
organizations
used
to
raise
much
needed
funds
these
days
–
and
it
really
comes
as
no
surprise
does
it?
Many
charities
hire
outside
companies
that
provide
all
the
provisions
for
the
events
at a
low
cost.
This
is
the
best
way
to
host
a
casino
night
or
poker
night
charitable
event.
There
are
several
companies
out
there
such
as
party
planning
companies
that
provide
all
the
games
and
other
gambling
supplies.
This
is a
business
I
would
like
to
own!
Some
companies
hired
by
charitable
organizations
actually
travel
with
the
gaming
supplies
from
one
gig
to
the
next.
This
is
an
interesting
fact.
Well,
I
will
be
checking
out
the
church
in
my
community
to
see
exactly
what
there
gaming
night
is
all
about.
I
just
find
it
fascinating
don’t
you?
