California a Leader in Online Gambling?

March 30, 2009

The great state of California is undoubtedly one of those states that is always looking for some way of staying ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to being the coolest state in the union. They were one of the first to embrace being green, they were the first to embrace healthy lifestyles, and they were one of the first to approve wide spread tribal gambling.

But now it looks as though they are looking to be the leader for the online gambling movement and across the country states are looking at how online gambling might affect them. For California, they know that online gambling is coming, and they arent fighting it, in fact they are looking for a way to make it legal before everyone else does.

The state has long been thought of in liberal terms, so it comes as no surprise that they might be one of the first to embrace online gambling. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has already said that he wants to bring online gambling out into the open and wants to expand it within the state of California. Many think that if any one could do it, it would be Schwarzenegger as he has the resources to make online gambling a reality.

They have been waiting to see if the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, would be overturned. Once the UIGEA is reversed, there is no doubt that other states would embrace online gambling as well. However, California is not really looking to wait for that to happen. They are looking to the future and they know that the future is online gambling. They are kicking around the idea that not only would online gambling be legal but it would be legal much sooner in their state.
