| GamblingPhD menu | Casinos Not Doing So Well March 12, 2009 It was to be expected online gambling would start to do even better while land based casinos would start to falter. This is not a surprise to anyone really in either the land based or online gambling industries. They know that when the economy tanked that people were still going to want to gamble, but they werent going to be willing to drive to do it. Online gambling is an escape for most people, and this is no different no matter what the economy is like. However, they also know that they can spend a lot of money to gamble at a casino including transportation issues, etc. or they can take all of that money and sit in their living room and do online gambling instead. Casinos across the country are reporting that their revenues are down from where they should be, and in most cases way down from where they were a year ago. The Las Vegas Strip is reporting that they are down 15%, and Atlantic City says that they are down 19%. However, online gambling is up and they brought in more than $20 billion last year alone. But for all the online gambling operators that are simply thrilled with the turn of events, there is, of course, a group that is not so happy. Pro family leaders say that they are worried because the markets are doing badly and people are spending their money on stuff that gives back very little. They say that they would rather see people invest for that is a gamble that they at least stand a chance of winning. Back to March 09 Archive. |
