| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling in Maryland? March 10, 2009 Somehow when you talk about online gambling and the various states that are wondering how they might make it legal, Maryland seems like a kind of a shock. When California said that they were going to try and make online gambling legal within their borders, it really was somewhat expected of them. Same thing with Vegas people expected them to try. However, when Maryland said that they were thinking about legalizing online gambling in their state, for some reason people thought that they were kidding but they are not. They arent looking to completely legalize online gambling, but lawmakers in the state would like to see fantasy sports exempted from the ban. The state says that if they were to allow online gambling in the form of fantasy sports, they could earn a lot of money for the states economy. The state is currently one of six that does not allow cash wins for fantasy sports gambling at an online casino site like CBS Sports or Yahoo Sports. The state says that it is a trend that many states across the nation have embraced and thus have brought in money for their budgets. They feel that they should embrace it as well. Maryland residents would be able to participate in this specific form of online gambling, and the state would get much needed money for their budget. It really is a win-win for everyone according to lawmakers. Early reports say that residents are mostly supportive of the online gambling bill, and think that it is a good idea.
