NFL Goes After Online Gambling

March 31, 2009

The National Football League has long made it clear that they are vehemently opposed to online gambling. They say that online gambling threatens the integrity of the game, but it seems that they have forgotten how football began. They have hired a full time lobbyist to keep online gambling legal.

The National Football League was founded on and run by bookies and gamblers for many years and online gambling as well as live gambling have long had a part in the sport. Much of the excitement for the sport comes from fantasy football games and the fact that online gambling has supported the sport and the way that bettors want to enjoy it.

In fact, many say that if the NFL continues to make it difficult for them to participate in online gambling, that they might have to find another sport to put their support behind. Some liken it to the dark days of baseball when it went from the All American sport to the corruption and greed that many see filling it these days. The sport it on its way back, but it still isnt what it used to be.

Online gambling may not be their first choice of sponsor for their games, but the fact of the matter is that football and online gambling go hand in hand. The fact that the NFL now has a lobbyist pressuring Congress to keep online gambling illegal has struck up the ire of many of their fans.

Some say that the NFL needs to stop worrying about them participating in online gambling and worry about what would happen if they all pulled their support from the sport. There are many who are ready to do that, and this latest attempt from the sport to keep online gambling illegal simply pushed them closer to that line.
