Philippines Looking at Online Gambling Ban

March 20, 2009

In a rather shocking move, the Philippines is looking to ban all online gambling. Narcisco Santiago has announced that they are seeking to change their stance on online gambling so that it more closely resembles that of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 or the UIGEA that the United States passed.

The Minority Alliance for Rural Concerns is looking to shift their stance on online gambling so that the UIGEA becomes more the model for their laws. They would like to see all online gambling made illegal except for licensed horse racing, fantasy sports league game betting, and those bets made for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office lotto.

This is shocking because the Philippines is known as always being in the forefront of the online gambling industry. Many of the industries firsts were credited to the country because they were so forward thinking in their opinion of online gambling. In 1977 they were one of the first ones to regulated all games of chance in their country, which then served as a model for others to do the same. They have long been the epitome of successful and safe online gambling.

With this move, the online gambling world is simply reeling. Experts say that there is a great concern in the country of minors playing at online gambling, and that it has become a very seductive form of entertainment. They say that with all of the promotions they just cannot excuse allowing it to run rampant any longer.
