| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Not Social March 25, 2009 It would seem that online gambling is not as much a social hobby as many thought that it would be. There are numerous sites that have tried to do a social networking kind of thing and incorporate online gambling into it, but it just didnt work for them and they had to shut down. The latest foray into the online gambling and social networking hybrid is Pikum, who has also announced that they are closing their doors as well. The social online gambling site tried to rely on advertising and monthly membership fees to sustain themselves, but as the others found there just isnt enough money in that for them to remain viable. They simply cannot generate the revenue that is needed for an online gambling site to remain a place where people want to play and hang out. They couldnt even get out from under the setup costs that it cost them, and unfortunately they had to shut down. The online gambling company has said that they were unable to come out from under the costs of their online gambling licenses, marketing, etc. and left them without the funds to run the site. The ads that they were counting on ended up not being a significant source of income for the online gambling site. Experts say that the biggest problem these sites are really working on is trying to get around gambling laws in the US and maintain a decent revenue source. They say that they are basically trying to reinvent the wheel to make it a square and still get it to work. Back to March 09 Archive. |
