| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Supporters March 10, 2009 Those that believe online gambling should be legal have spent a lot of time preaching to the choir. They have found that they spend a good deal of time working on getting the support of those that already support the idea, instead of working on those that need to be worked on to get them to change their minds. However, the Poker Players Alliance is changing the way that everyone looks at online gambling. The PPA showed up at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week to try and get those with more conservative thinking thinking about legalizing online gambling and the benefits that could come from it. They tried to show them that conservative thinking also includes ideas from the libertarian section of the government. These ideals include the right to online gambling and poker playing. Greg Raymer is the 2004 winner of the World Series of Poker Main Event, and he showed up at the meetings to discuss online gambling. They said that he focused on the fact that the government should not be involved in telling them what to do with their money, instead they should be focusing on things that have something, anything, to do with the government. He stressed that by choosing to participate in online gambling it was a choice that he was making, just as many other Americans chose not to participate. He said that when you get government involved in all aspects of your life, and allow them to tell you what to do with your money you are only inviting trouble. Back to March 09 Archive. |
