Overturning the UIGEA

March 6, 2009

Now that President Barack Obama is in office all anyone in the online gambling industry can think about is the day that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, or the UIGEA, will be overturned. They want to think about the fact that online gambling will soon be legal and regulated and everyone will be happy again. What once seemed like a pipe dream is quickly becoming a reality.

Online Gambling could be a huge money maker for the United States, and even if it isnt they argue that those that are participating deserve the same protections as anything else on the internet. They say that online gambling is something that everyone participates in so why not make it legal and make estimated billions of dollars off of it?

Now with Rep. Barney Frank introducing laws that could overturn the UIGEA and regulate the online gambling industry, those that have been waiting for this are overjoyed but cautious in their optimism. They know that there are some very big things that have to be taken care of first like the economy and health care but they know that they are on the list.

They also know that they have to get past Congress, that even if the President is for legalizing online gambling, not everyone else is. Obama has said that he doesnt think that government should be involved in keeping people from participating in online gambling, so they know that he will look favorably upon Franks proposal.
