America Has Not Stopped
Online Gambling

It just goes to show you
that if you make something illegal and the people don’t want it to be
that way they are going to continue doing it no matter what. The United
States Government tried it with prohibition and all it did was drive
drinkers underground and into speakeasies. With online gambling it is
even harder because anyone who has a computer can simply go into their
living room and play on it.
There was a report that came out a couple of months ago that showed that
if you combined all of the online gambling revenue for all of the
counties except the US – if you combined all of them together, you still
would not have the amount of money that was made in the US alone. The
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, did not stop
people from participating in online gambling, not even close.
A recent report shows that more than 12% of adult respondents said that
they had visited an online gambling site within the past year. They
found that men were twice as likely to gamble as women and that they are
more likely to play poker, while women are more likely to hit the slot
machines. The survey was taken on by the Mintel Research
Organization, and experts say that what their findings show is not
really a surprise. Many believed that more people than ever were still
participating in online gambling.
Not only that, but the study showed that more and more people are
joining the online gambling industry as players every day. The amount of
people participating is steadily increasing, not decreasing as the
government was hoping it would. The report also showed that land based
gambling was not increasing, rather it was decreasing. They have long
said that they felt that many land based gamblers were now switching to
the online gambling industry instead.
