European Union Members
Cannot Decide on Online Gambling

Some people look at Europe
and they think of them as being very progressive. They appear to be
mostly liberal really – as it is an appearance of anything goes.
However, that would depend on which country you are talking about. There
are those that are absolutely more lenient than others, and there are
some that are downright prudish. This is the problem that the European
Union is running into as every time they try to pass a law that works
for every member of their Union – well, it doesn’t.
Online gambling is the perfect example of that. There are a couple of
different kinds of things going on here. You have the countries that
want online gambling, and think that everyone should have access to
everyone else’s residents – freedom across the boards. Then there are
those that think that online gambling should be legal, but limited
within their borders. No one from another country can offer online
gambling to their clients kind of deal. And then again, there are those
that don’t want to see any online gambling at all.
Somehow the EU has to get all of these groups to agree, and then move
forward with it. But this can only move forward if you can get a group
to agree on any small point of it, and this is just not happening. They
pass a law regarding the use of online gambling and it is supposed to
apply to everyone, except that certain countries find loopholes to not
have to comply and others flat out disregard the laws. You are left with
a governing body without a whole lot of power because no one that they
are governing is listening to them.
They feel powerless to do anything about it, so they keep calling
meetings and trying to get things accomplished – to no avail. It would
appear that the online gambling fight is far from over in the European
countries.
