Military Gains Internet

So the military is under
fire again from some groups that don’t think that they should be able to
participate in online gambling or any gambling at all while they are
overseas. They say that the environment that they are in is conducive to
creating addicts as they are seeking a release from all that they are
experiencing over there. They cite that there are too many stories of
service personnel spending all of their money on gambling when they
should be sending it home. They cite examples of service personnel who
take their own lives because they become so addicted.
However, many people think that they are making a mountain out of a mole
hill. They said that the military has given them internet access so that
they can correspond with their family members, but they have made it
very clear that online gambling is not legal. They released a statement
recently that said that although they were giving them this access it
was not to be used for online gambling of any kind.
Others say that those stationed overseas have never participated in
online gambling anyway, because they did not have the proper internet
hook ups to be able to. They said that there are those that gamble on
the bases but they are not all killing themselves. They argue that there
have been a couple of isolated cases, but if these people were in the
real world they would have the same experience.
They say that you cannot deny our service personnel something that
obviously brings them joy simply because you don’t like it. They argue
that if those groups want to ban all gambling by the military then they
should go ahead and sign up and make sure that this happens- otherwise
they need to mind their own business.
