Land Based Casinos are
Doing Poorly Because of Online Gambling

According to the Mintel
International Group, online gambling is partly to blame for the
lackluster performances that have come out of the land based casinos.
Most people realize that with the economy the way that it is that their
land based casinos are just not doing as well as they used to. It used
to be that you would make a whole trip of it if you wanted to gamble.
You could get a hotel, take a plane ride, etc. – all for your vacation.
But when the economy dropped and people did not have as much disposable
cash – those trips had to go away.
Mintel believes that people merely turned to
the online gambling industry instead. While it is a popular belief that
many did turn to online gambling instead of land based gambling, it is
usually thought of in terms of saving money. Instead of spending money
on airfare and hotel rooms, you are saving all of that. Instead, if you
still want to gamble, you might be able to spend a few bucks at an
online gambling site and get your fun that way.
The economy has definitely hurt the land based gambling industry, this
is not a surprise – the economy has hurt everyone in many different
ways. But the land based casinos are also causing people to spend money
in travel that they just don’t have to fork over if they are going to an
online gambling site instead. They might still spend the money that they
would have for gambling, but they are not going to spend as much.
The numbers for land based casinos as a rule have continued to decline,
while those for online gambling sites have increased. Each month we hear
about another casino that is not doing well, or in some cases have
actually had to close down their operations. But each month we hear how
the online gambling industry is flourishing, and has never been better.
