The country of South Africa
had mentioned that they might be interested in bringing online gambling
to their residents and people jumped all over it. They had them
organizing and legalizing it before the ink was dry on the request to
study the ramifications. They have since found that many within their
country have a desire to play at online gambling, and as they could use
the millions if not billions that would come to their country from it,
they felt that it might be worth investigating.
They are still working out the details as to how they might offer online
gambling, but in the interim there are those that are trying to figure
out whether or not they might want to start moving into mobile gaming.
They say that with cell phones being so widely used throughout the
country that it only makes sense to make online gambling available
through the medium. They have more than a half of a million online
gamblers in the country, so you might as well give them various options
of playing.
The director of the National Responsible Gambling Programme in South
Africa, Peter Collins, says that the online gambling industry is easily
worth around R800 million and he believes that this number will grow
exponentially if they allow cell phones to be used as online gambling
devices.
Some think that they should not worry about mobile gaming when they
don’t even have online gambling legislation yet. They say that they have
spent years trying to get it legalized in a manner that would take care
of their residents and not leave them worried about excess online
gambling addiction. They said that new users will be hesitant to try out
the regular online gambling casinos, never mind ones that they can
access on their telephones. They think that one step at a time is what
they need right now.
