Venetian to be first casino to offer hand held gambling devices

May 25, 2006

In exciting new online casinos news today, we just learned that the Venetian is not only building its way into becoming the world’s largest hotel, but by year's end, its casino players will get the chance to use the new technology of hand held wireless casino gambling devices. This will make the Venetian the first casino in Nevada to do so.

Being able to gamble somewhere inside the casino using a wireless portable device is so cutting edge, it has taken a long time for any casino to figure out how to implement them. This new portable and wireless casino gambling technology is what many casino players have been waiting for.

The deal between Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Cantor G&W is the very first of it kind in the gambling Mecca. Cantor is the first company licensed by Nevada gaming regulators to allocate wireless mobile gaming devices.

The new partnership between the casino and the device’s developer has Cantor G&W to be the only dispenser of the wireless gaming equipment to both The Venetian and Palazzo. The Palazzo is the new section (sister property) of the Venetian that when completed will make it the largest hotel in the world.  Between this new wireless gaming deal and the new hotel addition to the Venetian property, Las Vegas Sands Corp. has a lot to look forward too. Incidentally, the new addition to the hotel property is costing a whopping $1.8 billion and is expected to open in 2007.

As it stands now, no details about the financial aspects of the new gaming device are being announced. The device’s developer is still able to offer the devices at other casinos.

Once the technical standards for player usage of the wireless devices are finished, the hand held units and related equipment can be put to regulators for approval. This is said to be happening in the next month. Cantor’s plan is to start testing by December.

While the details about where exactly on property these wireless devices will be able to be utilized is still is discussion with regulators, the sheer size of the Venetian’s property will allow for major convenience with players being able to use the portables. For instance, players will be able to use the devices in certain dining areas and so on, but not their hotel rooms. Whatever the case, using these new devices in such a large property is like coming out swinging with a huge statement.

We know that it will be very interesting to see how these new hand held machines will fare and who will use them. Talk about a cool new amenity that other casinos will not be able to advertise until they sign deals.

Waiting to see how they fare and when they are online will be the hardest part. It is said that the devices are going to be very simple to use. In a day and age where technology is growing leaps and bounds, this is still a very cool new addition the gambling world as a whole – whether you play at online casinos or not.
