| GamblingPhD menu | You Might Want to Let Fly by Nights Fly By May 12, 2008 There are many online gambling companies out there that are considered risky, and yet many players still utilize them. Each day more online casinos crawl out of the woodwork, and expect you to participate on them. However, they dont have the experience or the reputation that the more established online casinos have, and therefore it is a much riskier place to put your money. Depending on whom you talk to, the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, was either good or bad for these fly by night online casinos. The online gambling industry can be deemed dangerous as a whole depending on who you talk to, and there are varying points of view as to whether it is worse or better for the passage of the Act. Some say that the online gambling sites that are suspect at best are less prolific than they were before the passage of the law as it is harder to get involved in the industry now than it was before. Others say that the UIGEA took away what little protections there were before, and thus it is now harder for those that are legal and have a good reputation to be separated from the pack. Others say that even the most established of online gambling sites, such as BetonSports can close their doors leaving their customers high and dry. They say that even those that were the strongest online gambling companies are facing issues they werent before the passage of the Act, so they are just as likely to close down as those that just opened. Either way, what is to be gleaned from this is that if you participate in online gambling in as that it is not legal you are truly gambling with your money one way or the other.
