More Online Gambling Patent Problems

May 14, 2008

A lawsuit has been filed against seven online gambling companies for patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed on April 25th of this year, and is called “Method and System for Interactively Transmitting Information Over A Network Which Requires Reduced Bandwidth.”

The lawsuit alleges that the online gambling companies have been infringing on Patent No. 5,564,001. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri on behalf of 1st Technology, Inc.

They claim that the online gambling companies have been and continue to infringe on the patent owned by the company. The companies include four Costa Rican online gambling firms: Action Poker Gaming Enterprises, Cost Rica International Sports, Digital Gaming Solutions SA, and SBG Global.

It also names two Norwegian companies, eCom Enterprises and Playsafe Holding AS; and one out of Curacao, Digital Gaming Network, Ltd. All of the online gambling companies are asked to stop using the patents immediately.

The company maintains that they want the online gambling companies to cease and desist the usage of their patents, and they want damages paid for that usage that has already taken place. Their law offices stated that they spend a lot of time “developing its intellectual property” so it is no wonder they would want other companies not to infringe on that.
