| GamblingPhD menu | PPA Supporting Rousso May 15, 2008 The Poker Players Alliance has announced that they will be supporting Lee Rousso in his fight against Washington States anti online gambling law. Rousso represents the PPA in Washington State, and he will be having some company as he stands before the judge next week to challenge the constitutionality of making online gambling illegal in the state. Rousso has waited a long time to have his day, and it will continue to be a tough fight for him. He has waited through delay after delay for legal technicalities and all of the numerous arguments that have gone ahead of the case. However, finally, Rousso will get a chance to be vocal about his case. He is fighting the state itself saying that the punishments that they are doling out in reference to the online gambling ban are not warranted. He says that by making it a Class C felony they are lumping online gambling in with child porn and threatening the governor. He says that the online gambling ban does not comply with the US federal Wire Act. He says that the law does not make online gamblers liable for prosecution, but that the state law does. He says that by banning online gambling the way that they have, they are trying to keep a monopoly within the state as well. He is seeking to have the online gambling ban removed, as he knows that it can have long reaching consequences for them all. Back to May 2008 Archive. |
