| GamblingPhD menu | Americans Calling for Legalized Online Gambling May 25, 2009 There are those that wonder how the last administration could have been so out of touch with what the people of the country want when it comes to online gambling. A recent survey showed that the majority of Americans want online gambling to be legalized and regulated, as well as taxed so that the county can be making money off of something that people are going to do anyway. With the election of a new administration, many thought that the chance of having an online gambling system that was legalized was a done deal. In fact, many people thought that it would happen almost immediately. Obviously is didn�t, especially since there are more pressing matters on the President�s plate. But this does not remove the expectation of a nation of online gambling patrons who want the UIGEA overturned. Bob Barr recently wrote an open letter to lawmakers and citizens alike urging them to stick with their convictions and push for the legalization of online gambling. He and others feel that the worst thing the American people could do right now is to sit back and wait for something to happen. They have to push their lawmakers to pass legislation that would not only allow online gambling to flourish, but allow our nation to make money off of it. It is a billion dollar industry and those that are not looking to take advantage of that should seriously consider what they are missing out on.
