Lawmaker Has a Lot of Support Behind Him

May 30, 2009

Rep. Barney Frank has been tirelessly working to reverse the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA for a long time now. But now that there is a new administration in office, it looks like that might be a real possibility for them. Frank recently released his new bills that he would like to see passed, and the online gambling community was thrilled to be able to support him.

The new legislation would roll back the ban on online gambling that was passed and allow the Treasury Department of the US government to regulate, license, and tax the online gambling industry. The current law does not make it illegal to participate in online gambling but makes the processing of payments for it illegal which is pretty much the same thing.

Frank said that if the government took advantage of the millions of dollars that are sitting out there in viable tax money it could mean a big different financially for the country. He said that online gambling was a matter of personal liberty and said that the government had no place sticking their nose in it anyway.

The online gambling bill already has about two dozen sponsors, and he hasnt asked for support from the Obama administration on it. He knows that the online gambling community wants this bill as do the majority of Americans. He is confident that the online gambling ban is going to pass, and he is just excited that he is a part of history in the making.
