Online Gambling Lies and Slurs

May 6, 2009

There are many people out there that are committed to getting all gambling wiped off the face of the earth. They say that God said that gambling is a sin and that no matter what no one should participate in it. They want to see online gambling kept truly illegal, and land based gambling done away with. They are of course, the Christian Right, or as some refer to them The Moral Majority.

However, the claims that these various Christian leaders make are not only slanderous, but out and out lies about the online gambling industry. They make up crazy claims with no proof or evidence to back them up and then they pass it around like law. Three of the worst offenders: Professor John Kindt and Professor Earl Grinols are parts of a whole that is determined to eliminate online gambling.

They use each others claims to support their positions, but not only are their positions based on lies, but so are the back up material that they quote. Kindt announced that gambling creates no products or jobs. However, he must have forgotten that every time a casino is raised there are construction workers, then people to train, the people to run the place, the people to keep up the landscaping, etc. that are now going to be hired. The MGM Mirage City Center created 12,000 new jobs just on its own.

Grinols told the Florida legislature that casinos are responsible for an increase in crime wherever they are. When it was pointed out that this was not true, that Hallandale had been running a casino for two years and each year crime had gone down, Grinols said that it was a three year problem and that they would soon be seeing large increases in crime.

Some claims are not just wrong they are dangerous. US Rep Spencer Bachus claimed that one on four teenage gamblers attempted suicide, and used a specific study to back up his claims. However, the doctor that ran the study said that this was not true and that the study did not show that at all.

So when you are listening to all of the terrible things that come out of online gambling, simply remember that most of the claims are not even true, and those that are should be taken with a pinch of salt.
