| GamblingPhD menu | NFL All for Profitable Online Gambling May 26, 2009 The National Football League seems to forget that it is online gambling that gets them as many clients as they have. There are many people who follow the sport of football simply because of the online gambling, and the NFL has worked hard to keep it illegal as well as being instrumental in getting the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act passed in the first place. But now they have decided to team up with a portion of online gambling because it is bound to make them money. The NFL has teamed up with lotteries on online gambling games, and many are crying foul. They say that by partnering with them they are simply exposing their own hypocrisy toward not just online casinos but gambling in general. They said that the reason they are now supporting online gambling is because they know that the government needs the revenue and therefore they are going to help those states that partner with them to be able to work toward meeting their budgets. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the lead behind keeping the UIGEA from being overturned, said that the move would help these states immensely, which is the only reason they decided to do it. However, they seem to be leaving out the part where they talk about the millions of dollars that they are going to make on this online gambling venture as well. They would get paid for those states that choose to use their logos, and split the profits. The NFL is continuing to fight Barney Franks new bill as well, even though he agreed to keep sports betting illegal. In fact, as soon as the NFL announced that they would now be allowing the franchising, contracts with the various states were announced the same day. Back to May 09 Archive. |
