| GamblingPhD menu | Poor US Players May 14, 2009 Once again the United States has gypped their residents out of an opportunity to win the big bucks when it comes to online gambling. Ever since the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, many online gambling companies have banned US residents from participating in gambling at their sites. This means that there are tons of missed opportunities for US residents of jackpots that could have been theirs. One of the biggest online casino groups is Microgaming and when they pulled out of the online gambling market for US players there was much upset because they are not only the makers of some of the best games out there, but they are also known to pay out large amounts of money. Well, this weekend they paid out again, and US players missed out on an opportunity to become a millionaire. Their Mega Moolah online gambling game paid out $6.3 million this past weekend to one player. Once the game hit the $5 million mark, players flocked to the game in droves, quickly boosting it up to its eventual payout. This past Saturday the online gambling game paid out just after 1 pm to one lucky player changing their life. Online gambling advocates say that this is the sort of payout that US players can look forward to when the UIGEA is overturned and online gambling is legalized and regulated within the country again. The new bill that has been proposed by Rep. Barney Frank will go a long way toward taking care of that and if passed online gambling supporters could find themselves no longer locked out of some of the best online casinos out there today. The online gambling bill has already gotten a lot of support on Capital Hill, now we just have to wait and see where it goes from here. There will undoubtedly be changes that have to be made to it before it gets passed but we could conceivably be coming around a curve into the home stretch. Back to May 09 Archive. |
